A child can be msning a friend and able to watch what they are doing and vice versa - what could be seen by mistake in the background? - anything!!! It fits with the research that says that the majority of road deaths of minors come between the age of 11 and 14 - ie precisely the age that they are first allowed out without anyone holding their hands or reminding them about road safety. This needs to be embedded across the curriculum each time we use the internet in our classrooms or request work to be undertaken at home. This will make the transition to a more open system possible. What we are trying to engender is children making responsible choices. Our suggestion is that the first commandment should be "DON'T give out any personal information including your password to anyone." A few "make sures" rather than "don'ts" and reduce total number to 7 or 8. Perhaps there should be a separate set to go home and to use in school.
